Lay Readers/Lay Eucharistic Ministers

All Lay Readers are licensed by the Bishop upon recommendation of the Parish Priest.  Duties of the lay reader include lighting the candles before the service begins, reading of the Epistle, reading of the Prayers of the People, administering of the Chalice, assisting the Celebrant and extinguishing the candles after the service.  Each lay reader has his/her own vestment which is worn during the service.  Training is provided by senior lay readers with more extensive training available through the Diocese of Central Florida. Licensed Lay Eucharistic Visitors are commissioned to share the sacrament with members of the parish who are unable to be present at the celebration because of illness or infirmity.
